Heya Everyone!
Y'all know I've lived in San Francisco for over five years. During those five years I've managed to do a lot. Seriously. I've biked Sausalito, had clam chowder at Fisherman's Wharf, shopped in Union Square, sipped countless coffees across the city, and have (basically) walked almost every street in this damn 7x7 city.
Needless to say, I have my opinions on places to go and my favorite things in SF. One of them being Golden Gate Park. I've run marathons in that park, leisurely walked along its paths to say hello to Ocean Beach, and have learned my fair share about animals and art at the Academy of Sciences and de Young. That being said, I still don't know everything – not even close.
So, when Museum Hack invited me to check out one of their tours I was intrigued. I've been to a variety of museums in the city and while I pride myself on being a lover of art, I usually have an attention span of a four-year-old. When Museum Hack told me it's "not your Grandma's museum tour" I leapt at the chance to check it out.
If you're looking for a traditional museum tour, hold your breath and sign up for one from the museum's website. I chose the de Young museum because it's one of my favorite museums and in one of my favorite places – the park.
On a fairly sunny Saturday afternoon, Ittai and I met Julian, our phenomenal tour guide and Museum Hack employee. Again, if you're looking to question and contemplate art, go on another tour. This one was perfect for my distracted mind and Julian kept things fun and fresh by giving us "mini-challenges" and telling hilarious jokes.
Fun fact – I learned that the de Young initially housed M. H. de Young's collection of spoons, stuffed birds and other oddities. Also, it's one of the biggest copper buildings this side of the Mississippi!
