What a wild few weeks, right? I don’t know about you but I often go in and out of emotions almost hourly during this shelter-in-place.
It’s no wonder – our brains are trying to process this heightened amount of stimuli. From anxiety to grief to feeling guilty for moments of joy to everything in between. For lack of a better word(s)...it’s been a clusterfuck.
As I personally try to find ways to cope and process, I’ve been going outside. A lot. Like, for several hours a day. hah.
I’ve always been a fan of walking rather than taking other modes of transportation, but in this case - I have no other choice but to walk (for the most part) anywhere and everywhere.
To make the most (if you can even say most) out of this quarantine, I’ve tried to reframe my approach/situation.
Because of the extra time on my hands, I’ve been trying to visit big (and small) San Francisco landmarks and locations. So, without further adieu here are some of my favorites below. And if you want to follow along, check out my IG for more:
Marshall’s Beach
I’m almost hesitant to share this because it’s too good. And secluded. Marshall’s Beach is like one of those places that feels top secret because when you go, you hardly see anyone else there. Located just north of Baker Beach, this spot is the ultimate destination for water lovers as you can easily dip your toes in the Pacific Ocean or take a perfect snap of the Golden Gate Bridge. I’ve been drawn to this location as of late – maybe because it’s so quiet or maybe because it’s the least crowded – but I don’t mind it. :)
Corona Heights
This is a place that I just keep coming back to. I don’t know if it’s just close(ish) to my house or that it feels like you’re above the clouds and overlooking the city, but it’s a keeper. On one of the first days of quarantine, I climbed to the top early to catch the sunrise and things just felt like they were going to be okay. It’s a place to gain and regain perspective and I feel so grateful to have this 20 minutes away from me!
Crissy Field
Did you know that Crissy Field was once a former U.S. Army airfield? It closed in 1974, but luckily, reopened and more beautiful than ever. It’s lush, has epic pathways for running, biking, and walking and so much more. If you walk down the entire path, you’ll end up with a up close and personal view of the bridge and it’s glorious. Just make sure to go early or later since this is hotspot – especially now.
Twin Peaks
Like the name, there are two hills to go up and see the majority of the city. In my opinion, Twin Peaks has one of the best overlooks of the city. It’s a stunning view and if you hike up, you deserve a beer or two after because it’s quite steep.
Alamo Square
I live fairly close to Alamo and while I’m biased, it’s notorious in the city for several reasons. One being home to the Painted Ladies but another being the epic dog park where dogs roam free. Whether you’re taking your pup to play or having a solo sunshine session, this park is extremely special. It’s lush, full of places to sit or roam and simply one-of-a-kind.
