A few weeks ago, I got in this weird creative rut. Maybe it's was season (back to school, etc.) that had me feeling antsy, but whatever it was I knew I needed to get that funk out.
I've been craving education and to try something new. Trying new things has always been an important pillar in my life, but with the day-to-day grind of a job, taking care of a pup, taking care of yourself (amen!), it leaves little to no room to think out of the box and challenge yourself.
I started looking for things to fill this creative void and after awhile, I stumbled upon IfOnly. If you're not familiar, IfOnly is a service that provides access to a curated selection of extraordinary experiences that benefit worthy causes around the world.
Cool, right? Well, even cooler is that they have a TON of things to try out. From brewery tours to dim sum dumpling classes, the platform offers so many unique things that will tickle even the biggest "experience" enthusiast.
Wanting to get back to making things with my hands, I landed on a earring making class. My pal Casey and I decided to wake up and head to Bernal Heights early on a Saturday to take the class and to our surprise, we were met by 16-year-old Roma Edwards. She was teaching the class in the next two hours we learned so much about her (and about the wildness of high school!!) – she even has sold her stuff at West Coast Craft (!!!).
I can't tell you how refreshing it was to try something new, by someone new and actually find that you really like it (hell, maybe even good at it!). Roma reminded me that things should be fun and creative – things you may forget or put on the back-burner when you start working.
We ended the morning making two pairs of earrings each and leaving with really great memories of quality time spent – without phones and the chaos of the grind.
I HIGHLY suggest you taking a look at how badass Roma is and while you're at it, checking out all the amazing classes featured on IfOnly – get 10% off with the discount code: OHTRANSPLANT10
