One of my favorite ways to explore San Francisco was (and still is) walking all over. With inconsistent transportation and expensive Lyft and Uber rates, I usually opt for using my two legs to get somewhere.
But, if you’ve been in San Francisco before you know a few things:
Hills are aplenty (and I’m not talkin’ about baby hills)
Sidewalks are uneven and you will trip over your feet
And uh...it’s super casual
I love San Francisco and my boyfriend Tom knows it too. Any time I get the chance to brag about the city, I usually do. When we first started dating, I loved dragging him all over the city with really no destination in mind. One of my favorite memories is of us walking through the Excelsior, The Mission and back to Western Addition on a “mini food crawl.”
We also just moved in together (well, does October count?) and between work, our adorable but needy pup Bolt, and everything in between, it’s been a biiiiit overwhelming.
So, when life gets a little wacky, Tom and I do one our favorite neighborhood activities – a Divisadero eat/drink walk.
We walk to Barvale and start off with their famous Gin & Tonics. If you haven’t been you gotta go! We then snack on our favorite tapas (pulpo, fingerling potatoes, olives, pimenton and then eggplant escabeche, sherry vinegar, oregano, garlic) and go on to our next location or two.
But first, let’s chat about date night outfits – especially when doing a food crawl. Since SF is supes casual, I want to dress up and ditch my sneaks for some heels! Heels have evolved for me and now I opt for a chunky heel and a strap for support. I love these Maritsa Lara’s from Clarks that I snagged on Zappos (in two days and free shipping!!). Its open-toe is chic and the leather is luxe and looks good with legit everything!
On this date night I paired my Maritsa’s with jeans and then a fun and funky top I snagged a few years ago but never have worn!
Tom is usually in the same boat when it comes to SF style so he’s rocking a monochromatic look with the Clarks Edgewood Step – which I’m calling the perfect weekend walker. Check out some amazingly stylish (and comfortable!) Clarks kicks at Zappos.
After a trip to Barvale, we either get ice cream or if we’re feeling very daring, we’ll walk further down Divis and snag another drink at The Page or Horsefeather.
And now that it’s even warmer in SF, I have a feeling these date night food crawls will be a lot more frequent. Bring on the walking!
